SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATOR
Sr. Ruth Loubser trained as a nurse and midwife. She has received extra training in the field of sexual health and related fields. Her experience in the field of sexual health education includes teaching learners, empowering educators and facilitating dialogue with parents / caregivers and their children.
She is an associate researcher with the Institute for Women’s and Gender Studies with the University of Pretoria where her expertise in intercultural facilitation allows for meaningful dialogue about sexual and gender issues.
Sr. Ruth was invited to join the board of the South African Sexual Health Association in 2006 in the education portfolio.
Sr. Ruth uses anonymous questions by young people to keep her programme content up to date and relevant in our rapidly changing society. She co-authored a paper with Dr. Marjorie Jobson, "A Right to Ask and be answered", for the sexology congress held in South Africa in 2001.
Her recent work includes empowering parents through presentations and workshops designed to help them parent sexually resilient children. These ‘Loving Conversations’ are essential for sexual health and prevention of HIV, teen pregnancy and sexual abuse. She supports educators through her website.
Sr. Ruth is committed to upholding the fundamental right of all children to receive accurate and relevant sexual heath information. She provides this with respect and moral integrity.
